Discrimination in Childcare Centres

Trente-six CPE sélectionnent selon l’ethnie ou la religion (Thirty-six childcare centres select according to ethnicity or religion), Francis Vailles, La Presse, 2024-11-12.

An article in La Presse reveals that 36 State-funded (i.e. more than 80% State-funded) childcare centres in the Montreal area select their children according to ethnicity or religion, as well as other criteria. For example, in various centres, priority is given based on criteria such as being Jewish or Orthodox Jewish, Hellenic, Armenian, Algerian, Chinese, Haitian, Italian Catholic, member of an Islamic association, etc.

This information is drawn from the website La Place 0-5.

Selecting children admitted to a daycare based on the ethnicity or religious affiliation of their parents, is that not illegal discrimination? And a violation of secularism as well?
